A. What is the most powerful image from the slideshows? Why?
I think the most powerful image from the slideshows is the very first one where he's returning the call to the Sgt. because it shows Ian with this serious facial expression and it shows his sticky note with the number and that it says "Army recruiter". Another thing that makes this picture so powerful is that he's basically on the line with his future.
B. Through the photos, Ian is in different locations, each set of photos from the same location comprise a short series or set.
Set #1 1-9
Set #2 10-30 33, 34, 37, 39-44
Set #3 50-70
Set #4 31, 32, 35, 36, 38, 45-49, 70-83
Which set of images was the most powerful? Why?
I think the most powerful set is are the ones in Iraq because it shows the stuff he goes through, what he sees, and they're all taken from where he is.
c. How do the images work together to tell a story?
The pictures are in the order of which the events happened. They start from where he's first making the call for camp to when he's actually in iraq after all his trainings and going back and forth from them and home.
3.Underneath each photo is the caption that ran in the Denver Post
A. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?
Present.
B. How do the captions enhance the photographs?
They're really descriptive it kind of makes you feel like you're there and know Ian.
4. Now it's your turn to write a few captions- DO NOT COPY THEIR WRITING
A. Write three of your own captions to photos without looking at the caption written by the photographer. Be sure to they are written in the following form. For this assignment you can make up names and facts to write your captions.
Image 1: Ian makes the decision to call back the Sgt. and get ready to start his training camp as soon as he graduates.
Image 31: Ian arrived at the airport after training camp and met up with his family who were really excited to see him.
Image 82: Ian and his girlfriend Amy wanted to get married without a big wedding so they went to the court. After they were done Ian said "I'm so happy right now."
