Unusual & interesting photos (Part 2)

1. I picked this photo because it looks like it came from a movie scene.
2. International news
3. 2nd place
4. The fire in the back and the soccer ball that the man looks like he's kicking is what attracted me.
5. It's a good picture because the fire in the back and the man walking by himself with no one else around it doesn't look real.
6. Be in a dangerous place at a dangerous time.

1. I picked this photo because I really like how you can see the reflection of the girls at the surface of the water.
2. The Art of Entertainment
3. Honorable Mention
4. The colors attracted me I like how bright the pink is and I like how the colors kind of mix at the surface orange and pink.
5. It's a good photo because they were actually under water at the time of the event.
6. Go under water with the swimmers.

1. I picked this photo because I thought it was cute that it's to younger girls and a older man possibly their grandpa and they look like they're having fun.
2.  Photo Manipulation and Ethics
3. It won 1st place
4. They captured a family moment and unusual cause you don't always see old men on carnival rides.
5. I think the old man on the ride weighed in the judges minds.
6. Change it into black and white also get this unexpected moment so perfect at a unexpected time.

Unusual & interesting photos (Part 1)

1. His work is very different! A lot of it is architecture that looks like illusions.
2. I think he had a original picture and over lapped the same one several times in different directions.
3. The frost bank downtown Austin because it's close easy access and it's really beautiful and big.

National Geographic Warm-up

2.This is my favorite movie because I love leopards, I think they're so beautiful. I love that the main focus is the moon but in the dark you can see her eyes. It's just a perfect picture to me.

3. I would take a picture of something in front of downtown Austin so that you could see the view because Austin is wear "my" world is.

Touching People

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay?
I think it was a unusual but good idea. Although I'm sure a handful of the people that were asked to participate in it didn't feel comfortable enough to do it.

2. What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger?
I think it would depend on how I looked, where I was, who the picture was going to be taken with, and stuff like that.

3. Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.
Asking people to be in a photo shoot for crazy socks and have all kinds of people in group pictures with the different kinds of socks.

4. Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, are the photos good? Do you like looking at them?
I think they're great photos. The people in each picture are different either short and tall or dark and light, wearing opposite stuff. They're unusual and cool.

40 greatest photos taken

Image by Rich Lam / Getty Images

This photo captured a very rare moment. It's set up so that the main focus is the boy and girl kissing in the middle of the street. I like this picture because it's like love in a middle of the riot going on. I think it made the cut because it's different, it kind of looks like it was set up to be this way.

This photo shows a very important moment. A mom has made it back home and is happy to see her daughter. In the picture you can tell how much she has missed her and all the emotion. I chose this photo because I think it must be hard to be away from someone for so long and it always feels good to reunite. I think it made the cut because it's a woman coming home to her daughter not a man.

This photo shows emotion. His dad has passed away and he's being handed the flag. I chose the picture because it reminded me of when my mom got handed the flag at my grandpa's funeral. I think this picture made the cut of the top 40 photos ever because it shows emotion from not an adult but a child.

Great black and white photographers, PART 2

Imogen Cunningham was born in Portland, Oregon on April 12, 1883 and died June 24, 1976. While Cunningham was studying at the University of Washington in Seattle, she was inspired by an encounter with the work of Gertrude Kasebier and took up photography once again. She graduated in 1907 went to work for Edward S. Curtis in his Seattle studio, gaining knowledge about the portrait business and practical photography. In Seattle, she opened her own studio and won acclaim for portraiture and pictorial work. Cunningham continued to take photographs until shortly before her death at age 93.

Camera history & information

The Camera
1. This was the first camera. The hole acted like a lens, focusing and projecting light onto the wall of the dark chamber.

2. Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens perfected the understanding of optics and the process of making high quality glass lenses.
3. A glass lens, a dark box, and film.
4. New cameras are very easy to use, just point and shoot. The camera's built-in computer handles focus and exposure so you don't have to.
5. Light passes through the lens, into the camera, and exposes the film.

Camera Modes
6. Of all the shooting modes, Auto/Program is probably the most useful. Most people don't really want to learn about how a camera works, and point and shoot photography is the perfect solution.
The fully automatic (A)uto or (P)rogram mode is the default for most modern cameras. The photographer can simply aim, press the button, and almost be guaranteed a great image.
7. To attempt to blur out the background, camera will try to use the fastest available lens setting (aperture).
8. To freeze motion, camera will use the highest shutter speed possible.

The Half Press
9. Focus Lock and Faster Full Press Response.

Controlling Flash
10. No flash. There are many cases where you may not want flash at all. The mood of the photograph can sometimes be more dramatic when the natural light is used.
  11. In most camera modes, Auto-flash is enabled by default and will automatically fire if the camera thinks it needs more light.

Introduction Exposure
12. Too much light and the picture will be washed out.
13. Not enough light and the picture will be too dark.

The Universal Stop
14. The term "stop" is used in every aspect of photography to represent a relative change in the brightness of light.
15. One
 16. Two

Shutters & Aperture
17. More Light
18. Less Light
19. Before light reaches film, it must pass through an opening called an "Aperture". The aperture is like a pupil. You can control the aperture by setting the "Aperture Opening", also known as an F-Stop.
20. It does so by closing up to restrict light, and opening up to let it through.

The Camera

Definition 1: Image sensor- is a device in every camera that captures the image.
Definition 2: F-number- An optical system is the ration of the len's focal length to the diameter of the entrance pupil.
Definition 3: Vignetting- A reduction of an image's brightness at the periphery (edges) compared to the image center.
Definition 4: Rolling shutter- not a full picture, but pieces of a whole.

Aperture- The hole or opening through which light travels.
Shutter- A device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light-sensitive electronic sensor tto light to capture a permanent image of a scene.
Exposure- The amount of light allowed to fall on each area unit of a photographic medium
Depth of field- The distance between the nearest and farthest object in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.
F-stop- The setting of an adjustable lens apertureas indicated by an f number.Focal length- An optical system measure of how strongly the system converges or diverges light.

Great black & white photography

William Klein

Imogen Cunningham

Ansel Adams

My first worst

I don't like this picture because when I took the picture I wasn't paying attention and cut his head off. This isn't a good picture because she was moving and looks a little blurry. She looks like she is dancing. It also looks like he was looking the other way.

My best first

I like this picture because they're both posing differently. They're both opposites. I mainly like this picture because they're making the same facial expression. Instead of smiling they both have serious faces.
